Sorta Weekly Update – 14 Apr 2013

Sorta Weekly Update (Definitely should be Sorta Monthly) – 13 Apr 2013

Alright, I admit, I definitely gave my “weekly updates” a misleading name, but I don’t want to change it as then they might become “sorta yearly” instead! Before I get too deep into this SCOSWU I want to thank you all for your continued support – it means the world to me. I hope to have some exciting work news for you guys soon but at the moment I am still living the eclectic (yet somehow repetitive) life of an underemployed (I prefer this to “unemployed”) actor/musician.

It has been a big month for Mental which had varied releases around the world. It was finally released in cinemas and VOD in the US on March 29th and I again attended two screening/Q&As with the writer/director PJ Hogan. Those living in UK can finally get copies of the DVD or can check it out on iTunes and VOD services too. If you haven’t already seen this fantastic Australian film I highly recommend you check it out!If you have already seen it please continue to spread the word to your families and friends. If you have ever felt like you don’t fit in this movie will speak to you and empower you to be exactly who you are! I’ve loved seeing you post all your posts/pics about Mental so keep them coming!

I’ve also seen The Sapphires, OZ the Great and Powerful, Oblivion and a movie marathon of the Evil Dead movies (The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army Of Darkness and Evil Dead) at cinemas this month. The Sapphires is another great feel good Aussie film, full of heart, and I was lucky enough to meet and attend a Q&A with it’s director Wayne Blair. Oz The Great and Powerful could have been fantastic but felt like it had too many people trying to control it’s outcome. A candid Q&A with the original writer Mitchell Kapner completely confirmed this. It was comforting (in a bizarre way) to realise that it is not only actors who face huge challenges to create the type of work they desire. Oblivion was disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend seeing it. I hope upcoming sci-fi films like Elysium are much better. The Evil Dead Fest (as it was called) was a huge amount of fun and if you can handle horror I’d recommend seeing the reboot. Other noteworthy viewings this month include a huge amount of Derren Brown, and documentaries Kumaré and Beauty is Embarrassing. All three of these made me laugh and expanded my mind – two of my favourite things. Would love to know your thoughts on any/all of these films/programs – Did you love/hate them?

Whilst I have had several auditions in the past few weeks pilot season is now, basically over. Unfortunately, I recently found out I missed out on an acting job which I was on hold for for two weeks due to a lack of ethnic diversity in the show. This one really hurt as it would’ve seen me back in Australia acting/performing music for a few months working on a US network production. It would have been so lovely to visit my family and friends back home, and I am missing the collaborative creative effort of working on set, so this one would have been perfect. One thing I’ve learnt in the past few years is that, in life, you are in charge of how you let setbacks affect you. This has only made me hungrier and more determined to succeed out here and I am making even more positive changes in my life that will not only help my career but also me as a human being in general.

I’ve had a few developments musically which are exciting. Some things I can mention at this stage but I have been getting much busier which is a lovely change of pace from the audition scene. A new musical buddy of mine Daniel Anderson (recently of Glowbug fame) and I have been visiting the Los Feliz Par 3 Golf Course made famous in this scene from Swingers to discuss a few musical opportunities. Unfortunately we are only mildly better than Jon Favreau and Ron Livingston at golf! One indirect musical development is associated with the video below… Now it’s only featured extra work but… can you spot me?

One of my favourite pastimes these days is hiking in the various canyons of LA with old and new friends. What better excuse to catch up with ex-cast mates Margot Robbie and Valentina Novakovic for the first time this year! It was lovely to see these talented young women and marvel at the beauty you can find in a big city. The 360 degree view at the peak of Griffith is one of the reasons why it’s now one of my favourite hikes in LA. It’s been great getting even fitter/healthier  recently which has done wonders for my overall happiness/confidence. If anyone else is looking to take control of their fitness and wants some fantastic all-natural dietary supplements, I can personally recommend Hammer Nutrition and (BONUS!) you guys are able to get 15% off your first order by mentioning my name and client number 212364.

After several meetings and  many hours finalising my application for the Australians in Film 2013 Heath Ledger Scholarship I have submitted my entry. I am extremely happy with my proposal and hope that I will at least be a finalist and perhaps even winner of this fantastic incentive. If any of you are ever questioning whether or not to put the time and effort into a scholarship application I can highly recommend it. The process itself is very rewarding and, regardless of whether or not you are the successful applicant, you will be organised to take the next step towards your goals. Will update you if/when I hear anything more – wish me luck!

You might recall I mentioned an incredible photographer called Mathieu Bitton in SCOSWU – 11 March 2013 (viewable below this post). In the last month he offered to take new head / press shots for me. I was absolutely speechless with this offer and equally amazed when I received the finished product. Please head to my IMDB to check out this amazing new shot along with some behind the scenes stills from Mental.

Also, please remember once my Kings Of Leon – Closer Cover reaches 1500 views you will receive a new cover (I will choose from one of your requests in the comments section on my YouTube page). Your Posts/RTs/Shares are really what make this possible as quickly as possible, so thanks so much for all your help there! A big thanks to Sean James Cameron for putting together the footage (below) from a live performance I did in Hyde Park during my 2012 UK Tour. I’d also like to say a quick thanks to Haribond for sending me some free hair products to try – looking forward to trying them out!

As a belated Easter gift I will be doing another twitcam at 2:30pm PST – for time conversion please try this website (I have done some rough calculations here)! I know these times aren’t ideal but I’m right in the middle of the UK and Aus timezone-wise!

Sorta Weekly Update – 11 Mar 2013

Sorta Weekly Update (More Like Sorta Monthly) – 11 Mar 2013

So sorry this SCOSWU (more like SCOSMU) has taken so long, but at least I come bearing gifts! (cue search for gifts!) The reason for the delay is mainly having the FLU – and I’m talking the real flu here ladies and gents, not the dreaded “Man Flu” that goes around from time to time. I lost weight on this thing and I’m naturally not a big person. I’ve never sweated/bathed/washed and changed my bed so many times in the first 4-5 days (and that is way too much information already. So, I’m just gonna stop myself right there and move onto the other reason this has taken so long!) Just over a week ago I moved house – anyone who has ever done this will know what a process this is. I feel very settled here now though and I’ve caught up on most of the work postponed due to the sickness and the move! WINNING!

IMG_0092I’m just gonna dive right into this in whatever order seems appropriate to my Sunday morning brain and hope I get most of it done before I have to head out to the Aussie BBQ #5 at The Echo today. I know this probably won’t happen but at least I’ll get part way there! It was my Bro (pun intended) Ben Lawson‘s Birthday  last month and I went out and celebrated with him. I still find it crazy how many Aussies I know or meet out here! Another Aussie bro of mine’s bday was last month too and I went out to celebrate my bro Tim Phillipps‘s’ss’ss’ss Birthday also – after growing up with and living with this guy for so many years it was nice to celebrate a birthday in the same country again! Doesn’t happen very often these days! Unfortunately it means I was in the wrong country for my Mum’s Birthday which is the same day as Tim’s!

AUSBBQ5So that was all I got done (haha) before hitting up the Aussie BBQ which was loads of fun. I saw some fantastic Aussie talent and caught up with some great friends too! Stand out performances from The Trouble With Templeton (I think I may have fallen in love with their keyboard player Betty!), Folk duo Jordan Wilson and Ben Riley AKA Georgia Fair (Fantastic vocals and excellent guitar playing all round) and The Falls (Definitely check out their lovely tune Home). It was so nice to finally check out some really good live music this year! I never see enough live music and I hope this year is filled with many more days like yesterday!

TheshiningposterIn other artsy news I organised a group of people to check out the Stanley Kubrik exhibition at LACMA. It was my first trip to LACMA and definitely not my last! The exhibition was amazing and I was also lucky enough to see the Caravaggio exhibition on it’s final day. I would have loved the opportunity to work with Kubrik – his all-encompassing approach and commitment to creating powerful/thought-provoking stories is incredibly inspiring. So nice to celebrate the creator of one of my favourite films to watch on the big screen – The Shining. Please check out my Instagram (@samjclark) for some pics I took during the exhibition! While you are there I’d love you to like/comment your favourite pics!

In even more artsy news (yes I’m one artsy mofo these days!) I went to an awesome exhibition of world-renowned French photographer Mathieu Bitton (if you like his page please feel free to let him know Sam J Clark sent you). The exhibition was held at the Sheats Goldstein Residence in Beverly Hills which had the most incredible virtually uninterrupted view of LA. Check out 45 pics of this incredible living space where this exhibition was held (shots taken prior to a renovation – in which space the exhibition was actually held – pictured to the right). Incredibly cool to have two friends in two of the featured prints at the exhibitionTravelogue, Mathieu Bitton, Event and I made a new friend on the night who appears in a third print. I was obviously so incredibly impressed by the shots in his Travelogue exhibition (take a quick read of his IMDB to understand this man’s caliber) and was so blessed to receive my own personally signed copy of a very limited run book to celebrate this exhibition. What a genuinely lovely guy too – a welcome rarity in this world!

As you are aware, I’ve been doing a lot of auditions since I moved to the US and there have been several projects I would have really liked to be involved with. One was a Lifetime mini series about Bonnie and Clyde. I had to learn a Southern Accent late last year for this audition and really enjoyed the scripts. It is really hard when you miss out on jobs like this one that you felt you would’ve really nailed. It makes it slightly easier when someone like Emile Hirsch lands the role. Crazy to constantly be competing with such high quality talent for almost every role I go for these days! Another job I would have loved to work on is a new TV series called The Hundred which fellow/Neighbours Co-stars Eliza Taylor and Bob Morley have landed roles in! In good news I recently wowed an American casting director with my American accent – she almost fell out of her seat when I ‘became’ an Aussie again at the end of the audition. In amazing news I am currently on hold for a job that would see me come back to Australia for a few months. Fingers crossed this one works out (currently between me and one other actor) and I can visit my beautiful country earlier than expected!

a-good-day-to-die-hard_movieposterThe US version of the Mental Trailer premiered on iTunes about a month ago – so excited for this film to finally be released in the US on March 29th! Finally I can include footage from this in my show reel and hopefully it brings plenty more opportunities over here in Hollywood! I’ve seen a couple of movies in the last month too but none that have really blown my mind unfortunately. STOKER_One_Sheet_SMALLERA Good Day to Die Hard was pretty much exactly what I expected it to be, which isn’t an issue – Action just isn’t my favourite genre – and a big congrats must go to fellow Aussie Jai Courtney for being involved! He is just killing it at the moment! I also saw South Korean director Chan-wook Park‘s Thriller Stoker starring some very well-known Aussie Actresses. I found this film a little slow during the first half and I didn’t get much pay-off by the end of the film, but the cinematography and art direction was stunning.

In other random news I hung out with Seth Green at a party at Nathan Fillion‘s house a week ago – Seth has been a favourite of mine for a while – cool to meet him. I did my second twitcam for the year and will be doing a third early next month – check back for a date closer to April. I also recorded a new cover video which is already at over 250 views – at this rate you guys will be getting another cover in no time! I’ll do another video from your requests once this one hits 1500 views.

Last year (when I had super long hair) I was in a music video some friends of mine produced for a red seattle artist called Billy The Kid. This video is finally out through the production company Win That Fight Films and you can spot me a few times in the video for his catchy as collab with Jasper T – Taking Over the World As always I’ve been hiking a bunch though my healthy living was definitely interrupted in that. I’m back on board now though and hiking/playing Bball/personal training a few times each week and feeling great because of it! I also just joined a BMX crew though I can’t say much more than that for now! Watch this space!

Anyway – time for me to head off and start watching Breaking Bad Season 5! BOOM!

Sorta Weekly Update – 8 Feb 2013

Sorta Weekly Update – 8 Feb 2013

Clearly, changing the name of my Weekly Updates has already paid off! So sorry this SCOSWU (Sam Clark Official Sorta Weekly Update) is so late but I’ve been absolutely flat-out! A lot of auditions, some screenings, Superbowl, Australia Day, my first Twit Cam for 2013 and much more has made for a hectic few weeks! I’ll try to keep it brief, but so far that hasn’t worked, has it!?

Zombie Hunter PosterSince my we last spoke I’ve attended nine auditions for TV and Film and my brain feels appropriately mushy after  creating 9 new characters and memorizing 57 pages of dialogue! As you are aware, I’ve been putting a lot of work into my American accent (with which I have to almost always audition) and it has definitely been paying off! I have had multiple comments this week about how good my accent is (YAY!). I’m lucky to have a good mate called Martin Copping who has helped me with a few self tapes that could see me come back to Aus or London (fingers crossed) for some really fun roles! Marty has been killing it recently and you can follow him on Twitter or Instagram (@martincopping), or check out the trailer (WARNING RATED R) for his first feature lead which just dropped called ZOMBIE HUNTER.

After passing the easiest driving test ever I am now officially licensed in California! Definitely feels like I belong here now which is cool. I also had to endure a medical exam for my health insurance. This was not so easy and even took longer than all my time spent at the DMV for my CALI license! Five pages of paperwork, four vials of blood, three injections, two different doctors and one medical exam was finally complete! Fingers crossed I can get my insurance – the health system is just crazy here.

Mental BluRayMental DVD and Blu-Ray is available in Australia (and possibly the UK) which is amazing, you can get your copy here (or UK – not sure if this works though?) or at any good retailer! If you can ever leave comments/feedback/reviews for the film I’d love you to take the time to do that so other people know if they’d like to see it or not! I think it’s a great Australian film and definitely worth supporting! It’s also just been given a US release date and a new poster which is very exciting! All this in the same month as my first Neighbours Episodes airing in Aus along with my episode from Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries it has been a busy time for me acting wise!

I’ve also seen three great films since we last caught up: Wreck It Ralph, The Impossible and Warm Bodies. Three totally different movies, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed in one way or another! I think if I had to rank them it would be as follows…
The Impossible 1 Wreck It Ralph 2 Warm Bodies 3

(and Warm Bodies was number 1 at the box office last week). I highly recommend all of them. TI will shake you to your core and leave you contemplating your own inner-strength for days after taking most of your tears, WIR will make you laugh and probably cry, and WB will definitely have you laughing a lot and is a fresh take on the Zombie genre. I was also lucky enough to attend a Q&A with the beautiful Teresa Palmer after the screening of WB in which she was great (Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!).

everything-is-newMy favourite creative discovery since my last update is Jack Peñate. I discovered him through KCRW Eclectic 24 internet radio station (where I’ve been getting most of my new music) and instantly fell in love with his sound. I’d write a review but someone has already written one (Thanks VIPoole08 from iTunes) which pretty much sums it up perfectly! “…It’s as though I’ve literally taken a breath of fresh air. The lyrics are meaningful, the music is pure, but overall it’s the initial feeling I have as the sound waves enter my ear. So fresh and new… What I found is a young new artist who has incredible talent and a refreshing sound that, at the moment, I can’t get enough of. So dive in…close your eyes…listen…take a deep breath and feel the refreshing sound of Jack Peñate.” Check out a live version of one of my favourite tracks Body Down from his 2009 release Everything Is New. BOOM!

I’m now running out of time to get this finished so I will keep the rest of this brief. I attended my first ever Superbowl party and after riding my bicycle to the party with 12 beers in my backpack, spending several hours drinking and eating (far too much) and riding home I was exhausted and asleep before 10pm for the first time in a long time. It was a great day and a good game apart from the 34 minute power outage. The weekend previous I had an equally tiring weekend celebrating Australia Day. A few hundred Aussies packed the downstairs bar for what was an epic catch up. So nice to see so many of my old Neighbours cast members and hear so many familiar accents!

Anyway I definitely need to run now so I’m signing off from this Weekly Update / SCOSWU. But… Since the first Twit Cam was such a success (you can check it out here or below if you missed it) I’m going to do another in a few weeks. I’d love to have as many of you along for the next one as possible and I’d like to set a tentative date but please note due to auditions this could change at the very last-minute. Details below or on my Shows Page!

Sorta Weekly Update – 22 Jan 2013

Sorta Weekly Update – 22 Jan 2013 (Cos it sure ain’t gonna be weekly all the time)

403px-Martin_Luther_King_press_conference_01269u_editSo, (as usual ;) ) I was right! My second weekly update (take two of it for those who heard of my earlier fail) is already late! I do kind of have an excuse – it was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day yesterday so my week only really begins today.. But, as I probably won’t have an excuse in coming weeks, I have decided to rename my Weekly Updates, Sorta Weekly Updates (or SCOSWU – Sam Clark Official Sorta Weekly Updates). In what was a quiet week work-wise I managed to stay incredibly busy and caught up with a lot of new and old friends. I’ll try to keep this brief but I am also trying to arrange something special for you guys so please read on. Here is the sorta week that was.

As is the norm these days I had my weekly dialect class with the wonderful Anna McCrossin-Owen. Last week we worked specifically on my first audition for 2013. For the first time I decided I was going to arrive at the audition as an American. This will be standard from hereon in and basically means I speak with an American accent from the moment I set foot in the building (even if I bump into an Australian friend). Once my final audition scene is complete I can then break back into my Aussie accent. The method behind this madness is that the casting directors won’t actively listen for any dialect issues (of which there are very few these days) and will instead be focused on my acting. This will hopefully not only impress them but also give me a better chance at landing my next role. I’m pleased to say my first attempt went well.

cirque-du-soleil-iris-4I also had two great sessions with my personal trainer Joel Crandall. Joel is incredible. He works all sorts of wonders and has just finished up as strength and conditioning trainer for the Cirque Du Soleil performers on IRIS. Not an easy job to come by so I feel very lucky to train with him! I am getting balanced and strong and adding in a few extra hours of training of my own  has definitely improved my overall fitness.

Will Rogers State Beach at Sunset.....To keep up to date with all my pics make sure you follow me on instagram @samjclark

Will Rogers State Beach at Sunset…..To keep up to date with all my pics make sure you follow me on Instagram @samjclark

It feels silly to say considering it is the middle of Winter (and I’m sure I’ll get some virtual death stares from those of you in the UK) but it had been quite cold in LA until last week. To be fair, I’m talking about lowest max temperature of like 12 degrees celsius – clearly nothing to whine about. But this week the sun came back and we had a few beautiful days up around 27 degrees. I made the most of this, hiking and going to the beach and the park to do a bunch of exercise. The most epic day of exercise was definitely down at Will Rogers State Beach, just north of Santa Monica. I took this photo at the end of about 4 hours of non-stop beach volleyball, gridiron, AFL, Frisbee and even a swim. That’s right – swimming int he Pacific ocean in the middle of winter!

Love to hear how your Winter/Summer is – why not send me a message or pic on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram?

I caught up with a bunch of friends but two I hadn’t seen in a long time were Bob Morley and Aaron Jakubenko. Both lads you should recognise from Neighbours among various other things. It is really crazy how many Aussies there are over here!

Gangster SquadTwo others who I spent a bit of time with this week were Ben Nicholas and Tim Phillipps. You obviously know about Ben from my last update but Tim is a mate from school days who was also on Neighbours and has had a bunch of success since. Just last week Devil May Cry (in which Tim plays the lead character Dante) was released – check out this YouTube clip to get behind the scenes! Stoked for all his success! Anyway, we went to see Gangster Squad at the Grove and while I was waiting for the lads to arrive Mark Wahlburg arrived for an Extra interview – check out my Instagram for an aerial pic. I really enjoyed the film – it was great to see Aussie Sullivan Stapleton dong his thing and R Gosling, S Penn, J Brolin were all fantastic as usual. Emma Stone was beautiful and my crush on her has definitely increased once again though Jennifer Lawrence is still in #1 place!

Love to hear your thoughts on the film?

We also caught up and watched the 49ers beat the Falcons in a great game of Football and then watched the Ravens upset the Patriots. The Superbowl is on Sunday, Feb 3 and will be my first ever Superbowl in the US! I can’t wait.

More importantly than all that is Australia Day celebrations this weekend! I’m really gonna miss not being home for this but have celebrations to attend here in LA. I will fill you in more during my next update!

It’s also been a big numbers week! My Street Joy Cover broke 500 views, My YouTube Channel is 5 people away from 2000 subscribers and has over 500,000 video views, My Instagram is but 9 people away from 2,500 followers and Twitter is fast approaching the 14,000 followers mark. Facebook is still well in the lead with almost 26,000 likes but it seems you prefer to contact me via twitter or Instagram? (Perhaps you can pop online and let me know which way you prefer to stay in touch with me so I can get a better understanding of where to focus my efforts!) All this cannot happen without your continued support and online interaction so I thank you immensely for your efforts and love! As a thank you I’d like to set up a TwitCam for next week. You will be able to get a sneak peek at some cover ideas I have and we can just have a general chat! It will be at 1.30 PM PST on Friday February 1. (Converts to London: Feb 1 at 9:30 PM GMT, Brisbane/Adelaide/Sydney: Sat, Feb 2 at 7:30 AM EST/8:00 AM CDT/8:30 AM EDT) This was the best time I could choose for all countries involved – I apologise to anyone who can’t make it!

Why not hit me up with a Facebook wall post or a tweet if you are able to make it?

Oh and I have a sweet audition later this week that mixes my Aussie heritage, Music and Acting! Would be stoked to get involved in this project!

Until next time,

Peace and Love sJc xxx

Weekly Update – 14 Jan 2013

Weekly Update – 14 Jan 2013

This is the first of what will (hopefully) be a regular weekly update on what I am doing day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year. I wish I was confident in my ability to keep this up, but sometimes, when I actually have interesting things to share with you, I will be too busy to share them. And at other times I’m sure I will simply be doing things that are far too mundane to bother sharing! But the main purpose of these updates is to keep in touch with you while I am (possibly) on the other side of the globe! This way we can interact on a more personal level and I encourage you to ask any questions you have about any of my updates on my Fan Facebook or Twitter. I’m excited to see how this changes our relationship and apologise (spelled with an ‘s’ on purpose!) in advance for any/all grammatical errors I may make!

Being a new resident in a country means you have to complete various once in a lifetime tasks for a second (or third or fourth) time. Thankfully I have completed most of these tasks already so you won’t be bored to death by a list of them but one frustrating thing is obtaining a driver license. Having driven independently for almost ten years (yes I am getting that old haha) I have to sit a written and practical test here to obtain my California Driver License. On Thursday last week I passed the written component of the test with flying colours! My Practical test is just over a week away so check back soon to see if I have passed!

This week was a very positive week for me mentally. I set myself several goals and have been at least close to completing them each day. Each weekday I must complete the following:

  • vocal warmup,
  • 1 hr accent practice,
  • minimum 20 mins physical activity
  • catch up with your Facebook messages and tweets

I generally have two personal training sessions each week which makes the rest of the physical activity quite easy, reading aloud for an hour each day has been difficult but I am already seeing the results from this in my (now) weekly dialect lessons, and the vocal warmup is (I think) vital for maintaining and developing my voice. If you couldn’t tell from my desire to do weekly updates on my website – I want to keep in touch with you guys more – that part is always a pleasure!

This week I picked up an old mate (from early days on Neighbours) at LAX. He died from an aneurism and his ex girlfriend was my first love on the show! You guessed it Ben Nicholas (Stingray) is also in LA for Pilot Season. It seems like half the cast of Neighbours ends up over here these days! How lucky we have all were to have the opportunities we were given on that show!

I finished watching the fourth season of Breaking Bad and desperately need to start watching the 5th! I watched an interesting documentary called Forks Over Knives and have subsequently cut dairy out of my diet to see what difference it makes to my overall health. I watched some great NFL playoff games and unfortunately saw my team the Seattle Seahawks fall two points short of getting one step closer to the Superbowl. Watching the Golden Globes made me excited for things to come. I dream one day of attending this event and perhaps even being nominated or winning an award. I think with hard work and commitment anything is possible. Watch this space I guess.

I also saw two great movies, Zero Dark Thirty and Raging Bull. They are both pretty intense and often violent movies but from a film-making point of view they are both incredibly well made movies and I highly recommend both of them!

I finally created a new cover video which you can read all about below (or here) . Thanks so much for all your comments and requests on this video already! In less than a week we’re up to almost 400 views/40 comments! I will try to upload a new one from your requests once this video hits 1000 views! Get requesting!!

Amongst all that I wanted to see what your favourite pic of me was on Instagram and thankfully you responded in full force! I was barely able to keep up with the posts and hope I got back to you all to personally thank you by liking at least on of your pictures! I know it only burns .01 calories to click a like button but your Likes/RTs/Wall Posts/Instagrams/Comments etc make a much greater impact on me than they do your weight! At least both impacts are positive, right!?

Anyway I have rambled on long enough and have just received my first Audition for 2013 so I have to head off and spend a few hours prepping the script for my first round audition Wednesday! I’d love a good luck message on Facebook or Twitter if you get the chance!

White Denim – Street Joy Cover

Street Joy Cover Video

So it’s taken me six months but I have finally filmed another cover video. With my last UK tour and my move to LA in recent months I just haven’t found myself in one place long enough to get one shot. Now that I am settled and set up I plan to shoot these much more frequently. This is a song called Street Joy by a band from Texas called White Denim. They’ve had music out since 2007 so I guess I’m a little late getting on the bandwagon but I recently bought their fourth full-length studio release D and have really enjoyed it!

I think I initially got onto these guys by purchasing another fantastic album by American Indie Rock band Other Lives titled Tamer Animals. I highly recommend giving both a listen if you get a chance.

Anyway, the real reason for this post was to share my new cover video! So I hope you enjoy my version of White Denim’s Street Joy! If you have any requests, please place them in the comments section of this video on YouTube. As always your likes/shares/comments and subscriptions are greatly appreciated and are a big part of what keeps me going as a musician!

Trout

An Interview With A Trout

Here is a brief insight into my character Trout. For those who would like to see some interviews with other actors like Toni Collette or interviews with the director PJ or producers like Janet Zucker, all the current sound bites can be found at UCTV.fm.

I can’t wait for you guys to see this film when it comes out October 4th in Aus and December 7th in the UK!

P.J. Hogan’s Mental to close MIFF 2012

My first Feature film Mental has some fantastic news!

First of all I’d like to express how stoked I am to be involved in the film Mental. Working alongside actors like Toni ColletteLiev Schreiber  Anthony LaPaglia, Rebecca GibneyDeborah MailmanCaroline Goodall and Kerry Fox under the direction of the incredible P.J. Hogan were but some of the highlights of my involvement with the film over the past year. The cast and crew have done an absolutely phenomenal job and I thank everyone involved for their vision and tireless efforts in creating what should be a highly successful Australian film.

I was lucky enough to be involved with this project in several ways. Acting, playing guitar and singing live and synch, writing four songs for the film, recording one of those songs for part of the trailer in my own home studio and even being camera operator in one of the scenes! I enjoyed every moment of it and am so excited for you all to see this film when it is released to cinemas October 4th 2012.

Mental has recently had some fantastic news. It is set to close the Melbourne International Film Festival for 2012. Established in 1952, the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is the most significant screen event in Australia. The festival takes place annually in the heart of the city, presenting an acclaimed screening program alongside industry and celebratory events.

Please check out the trailer for Mental below and let me know what you think! Yes that’s me with the crazy surfer hair!

Young The Giant Cough Syrup

My cover of Young The Giant Cough Syrup

Young The Giant Cough Syrup is finally here! It’s been far too long since my last cover video and I apologise for the delay. My three-month trip to the USA followed by a visit with family back home in Adelaide during the lead up to UK Tour 2012 has left me with little to no time to do anything! It was fun covering this video though so please let me know what you think of my version of Young The Giant Cough Syrup!
